Big Day Bloopers

Anxiety, Lack of Rest, Disorganization, and being Unprepared are just a few reasons that lead to “Big Day Bloopers“ that are embarrassing, devastating and often times irreparable; leading to rejection and loss of job opportunities. A few of the most common bloopers:

  1. FAILURE TO RESEARCH COMPANY
    Communicates disinterest in job/company. Additionally, it can lead company officials to question your work ethic, attitude and planning skills. Not good!
  2. NO EXTRA COPIES OF RESUME
    Demonstrates signs of irresponsibility. Not a good start to an interview. Have a minimum of five (5) copies available for distribution.
  3. FORGETTING TO TURN OFF CELL PHONE
    In addition to being embarrassing, it’s very difficult for the interviewee to rebound and refocus on the interview. Best advice: Don’t bring the phone into the building!
  4. ARRIVING LATE
    No Excuse will satisfy the company official. Don’t be prompt…Be Early!
  5. NOT FAMILIAR WITH INFORMATION ON RESUME
    Many thoughts cross the minds of interviewer(s), none of which are positive. Plagiarism, fabricated, misrepresentation are just a few not so positive thoughts that will certainly lead to the removal of your name from the candidacy pool.
  6. NO QUESTIONS FOR INTERVIEWER
    Many negative perceptions can be derived from this action. Not prepared, arrogant, and/or lack of interest are just a few.
  7. FAILURE TO GREET INTERVIEWER
    Perceived to be unprofessional and many employers consider the “act” a deal breaker. Be sure to introduce yourself by your first and last name. And don’t forget about the receptionist!!
  8. NO REFERENCES
    Most employers request this information at the time of interview. As a candidate, you should expect this request. Failure to have the information available raises a Red Flag for company officials.
  9. INITIATING DISCUSSION ABOUT SALARY, BENEFITS, AND/OR VACATION TIME
    Priority one: Focus on delivering a solid interview. If successful, the employer will initiate this very important discussion.
  10. APPEARANCE/ATTIRE
    First Impressions are lasting impressions and sometimes permanent impressions. The appearance of your resume can unquestionably be the determining factor in you being granted an interview or not. Remember, you are not the only applicant for the job. If so, you’re applying for the wrong job!!! Employers scan over hundreds of resumes and invest very little time in the initial review. the content before making a decision to . Your resume is a direct reflection of YOU!!
